How to Release the Weight of Expectations

    Nick Keomahavong
    Sep 16, 2026
This past weekend I met with a group of young leaders — smart, kind people who genuinely want to make a difference. Almost every one of them told me the same thing: they're carrying so much pressure. Pressure from parents, friends, employers, and from themselves. And when they don't meet those expectations, the self-doubt creeps in — what's wrong with me, why can't I reach this goal?

In this video, I share three steps I use myself to release that weight. First, take time alone to get clear on where the pressure is actually coming from — is it the goal itself, or something you're carrying that isn't even yours? Second, share what you're experiencing with the person involved, using "I" statements instead of blame, so their walls stay down and they can actually hear you. Third, tell them exactly what you need before you share — to be heard, to vent, or to get their advice — so they know how to support you.
During a recent ordination program, I felt stretched between the new monks, my own responsibilities, and my teaching monk's expectations. Sharing that honestly, instead of carrying it in silence, is what let the pressure lift.
I hope this gives you the courage to put down what you've been carrying alone. #monks #buddhism

Are You Addicted to Social Media?

    Nick Keomahavong
    Mar 12, 2025

In this video, I dive into the topic of social media addiction and help you assess your own relationship with it. Instead of just telling you to quit or cut back, I offer three key questions to guide your self-reflection:
    1. How attached are you? - Are you mindlessly scrolling, or do you have control over your usage?
    2. What is your intention? - Are you using social media purposefully, or is it just a habit?
    3. What is your goal? - Is social media helping you, or is it distracting you from what truly matters?
By answering these questions honestly, you can adjust your approach—whether that means pulling back, setting boundaries, or using social media more intentionally.

    How to Cultivate Self-Worth | A Monk's Perspective

    Nick Keomahavong
    Jun 18, 2025

A lot of us struggle with feelings of not being good enough, of lacking worth or value. In this video, I share a personal story from when I first became a Buddhist monk. As I was greeted by bows from others, I felt uneasy and unworthy of the respect. My teaching monk shared an important lesson that changed how I viewed myself: "Can you bow to your own feet?" This powerful question taught me that in order to feel good enough, we must cultivate the virtues, qualities, and traits that are worthy of respect. Join me as I share how you can learn to spot your own value and goodness, and take steps to become someone you can truly honor. #monks #buddhism #meditation

So with all these challenges, what is the the source? Is it social media, is it money, is it competition, is it big companies?
    The answer is no.
The real source of all our problems is the human mind. In this video, I share this perspective along with solutions we can take. I hope this resonates with you and that you find it helpful. Enjoy!
